Traditional Printing

Transfer printing is a process used in the textile and graphic design industries to transfer a design or image from one medium onto another, typically onto fabric, paper, or other materials. This technique allows for high-quality and detailed prints and is used in various applications, such as creating custom clothing, fabric patterns, labels, and promotional materials. There are several methods of transfer printing, including sublimation, heat transfer, and screen printing.

Sublimation Transfer Printing

Sublimation transfer printing is a popular method for transferring full-color, photographic-quality images onto various polyester-based materials, such as fabric, ceramic, and metal. The process involves printing the desired design onto a special sublimation paper with sublimation ink. Heat and pressure are appliedto the paper and the target material, causing the ink to turn into a gas that penetrates the material’s surface and solidifies, creating a permanent and vibrant image.

Heat Transfer Printing

Heat transfer printing is another common method that involves transferring an image from a paper or film onto fabric, ceramics, or other surfaces using heat and pressure. This method is often used for custom t-shirts, tote bags, and promotional items. Heat transfer can be done with various types of transfers, including plastisol transfers, digital transfers, and vinyl transfers.

Screen Printing

Screen printing, also known as silk screening, is a versatile and widely used printing method. It involves creating a stencil, or screen, with the design to be printed. Ink is then forced through the screen onto the material. Screen printing is suitable for printing on fabric, paper, plastic, and other materials and can be used for large production runs or limited edition prints.

Water Transfer Printing (Hydrographics)

Water transfer printing, also known as hydrographic or hydro dipping, is a method used for printing designs on three-dimensional objects, such as automotive parts, helmets, and sporting goods. The process involves immersing the object in a water tank containing a printed film. The design adheres to the object’s surface as a thin film when activated by water and an activator solution.

Sublimation Printing

Sublimation printing is primarily used for fabric, especially in sports apparel and promotional textiles. The process involves printing the design on sublimation paper with special sublimation ink. Heat is applied, causing the ink to convert directly into a gas and bond with the fabric’s fibers, resulting in a long-lasting and vivid image. Transfer printing offers advantages such as the ability to produce detailed and high- quality images, durability, and the capability to work with a variety of materials. Each method has its own specific applications and is chosen based on the type of material to be printed, the desired image quality, and the production requirements.
